Make Your Dreams Your Whole Life

Over a decade ago, after the passing of my Grandmother, my Grandfather was lost. The only thought he had was, “Why not me, instead?” He couldn’t wrap his head around how he would possibly be able to survive without his wife. It turns out, he was asking the right question, but with the wrong intention. Instead, his intention should have been connected with the thought, “Why am I still here? What is my purpose?” With the help of my Mom, he discovered the one thing he always wanted to do but never did: build a 1932 Ford.

He didn’t know how he was going to do it, but after enough researching, he devised a plan. He became friends with the guys at the local auto body shop so they acted as his support system. Everything was going GREAT… until my Grandfather received some test results stating that his liver was failing and he had very limited time to live. What was he going to do? His dream project wasn’t even close to completion; he pretty much needed a miracle to finish this car. He made his way down to the auto body shop to tell the guys, and it just happened that one of them had an open spot in his garage and was looking for a new project. Talk about a miracle!

In the following weeks, they slaved on that car. He would call my Mom all excited about the progress they were making. Eventually, the car was in running condition. What would any Italian family do? Throw a part of course. My Grandfather was taking all of us for rides up and down the street, he was in his glory.

What would you do if you were told that you had less than a week to live?

The whole concept of dying with your dreams is a lot more common than many may think. Your life can look perfect and flawless from the outside, but are you really living? You can have the perfect job, house, car, body, hair, everything, but does that really satisfy you? Or are you creating that seemingly perfect life for others? Dreams are not meant to be extra-curricular activities. It is possible to make them your life. Not only a part of it, but the whole thing.

What can you do, right now, that will get you closer to your dream? Leave your answers in the comments.
